Karen Poynter – Chief Executive Chef “One of my earliest & fondest memories being baking with my Grandmother on a Saturday afternoon and remembering the excitement of what we where creating that day. Upon leaving school it became apparent to most that I was destined for a career in the catering industry. I studied at Thanet Technical College for 3 years. During this time I completed several work placements including three months in the South of France and various prestigious hotels in Central London. I enjoyed seven years on board the QE2 cruise liner as commis chef, leaving as Chef de Cuisine. Travelling the world was an amazing experience, visiting more countries than most people see in a life time, whilst gaining an invaluable culinary knowledge that certainly cannot be learnt in a classroom! On my return to dry land I was fortunate to be approached by a number of catering companies. The one that was obvious to me was Chester Boyd. I got the impression that the company was as passionate about food as they are their people (I can now confirm that this is true!!). I have grown, influenced and developed within the Company; I am proud to own my title of ‘Chief Executive Chef’! Some of the fortunate people to have sampled my culinary expertise…..! Gordon Brown, Boris Johnson, Cherrie Blair, the Lord Mayor, Gordon Ramsey, Jamie Oliver, Her Majesty the Queen…..the list goes on! I have an absolute passion for our product and am extremely proud to offer you the best of British produce, creating lively seasonal dishes. I am quality driven; and believe our menus reflect culinary trends using innovative techniques. I strive to continuously lead our brigades to use their skills creatively; I have the best team in the business so I can assure you im am always kept on my toes!! Our cutting-edge approach has gained us many accolades and awards, including a Catey, the food industry’s equivalent of an Oscar.
